It is distressing to see that in the Netherlands too, women and men from all parts of the world are often smuggled into our country as children, and then for years (sexually) exploited and abused under terrible circumstances.
The survivors feel powerless and anxious. They're hunted all the time. The perpetrators are still at large. That this can happen in a neat country like the Netherlands seems unthinkable. Yet it is bitter truth.
Herman Bolhaar, the National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children, calls trafficking in human beings 'the multi-headed monster'. He emphasizes the importance of awareness and recognition of the problem.
Awareness
TheBridge2Hope fights for this awareness. The foundation wants to bring the problem to light and show people, politicians and policymakers that this is happening in all layers of Dutch society. Awareness and recognition of the problem is the first necessary step to stop sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Only together can a fist be made, and no new victims will be created.

"We met the mediator, and he promised to take us abroad. They told us that once we arrived we would be paid. But they didn't tell us to work as prostitutes."
