[av_one_full first]15:00 - 17:00[/av_one_full]

You are cordially invited to the live performance of Pianist Raluca Sabau at Amstelkerk, Amsterdam on Sunday 29 September.

Doors open at 14:30, show is to begin at 15:00. We invite you to stay after the performance for drinks and a meet and greet with the artist!

Raluca has selected several composers that are sure to make this afternoon enjoyable! Relax while you listen to pieces created by Scarlatti, Satie, Mendelssohn, Toduță, and Chopin.

From the artist: "In this specific performance, I went in the search of lightness and peace, and so I came across the music of Satie and Scarlatti. On first thought, they don't seem to have much in common. But then I went on and imagined, what if these two, a Frenchman and an Italian, that lived two centuries from one another, could have met? How would a conversation between the two have gone?

In the first half of the program, we will have a selection of six of Scarlatti's sonatas and the six Gnossiennes by Satie.

In the second half we have Mendelssohn's Rondo Capriccioso op.14, followed by Romanian composer Sigismund Toduta's Three Sketches, and Chopin's Ballade in f minor at the end".

Raluca Sabau loves music for what it has to offer to people. Her playing has been described as very honest and transparent. In her concerts, she aims to give the audience an experience, a chance to feel whatever it is they are feeling in that moment, a chance to just be and observe, a chance to be moved, to be surprised, to be themselves. Raluca believes that a concert is as much about the listener as it is about the performer, as we are all influenced by the same music. Music is meant to flow between everyone engaged around it, and that is the only way it can come to life.

Raluca Sabau was born in a small town surrounded by mountains, in the heart of Transylvania. In spite of the fact that she is the first musician in her family, she does give credit to her parents for starting up that fire by often playing classical music recordings at home. After never ending flirting with her red toy piano she got as a gift at the age of six, Raluca was enrolled at the local music school and started taking piano lessons. Years later she joined the Conservatory in Cluj-Napoca where she graduated her bachelor and master degrees. Her love of music was sadly not enough to make dreams happen in her home country, so in 2011 Raluca moved to the Netherlands, where she followed her second master study. In the Netherlands, Raluca has performed solo and with various ensembles on stages such as Musis Sacrum in Arnhem, Concertgebouw De Vereeniging in Nijmegen, or The Concertgebouw Amsterdam, as well as being featured on television, in the media, and live on Radio 4. Since the year 2016 Raluca has her own studio in Amsterdam, where she teaches piano lessons to people of all ages. Next to teaching, she is also active giving solo and chamber music performances.
